You gonna laugh Dust , but when I was about 10 I was at a family party at a local Elks club and there was another party in the other room . When I hung my jacket up I saw a white sailors cap on the shelf above . Later on i saw him in the other room . It sounds stupid but as a 10 yr old I was fascinated by the hat and wanted to try it on - but my Dad was like - "No son " . I have always been fascinated by uniforms and how they come about .
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Hated the uniform that looked like chiefs and officers. Stoopid. Ditched them ASAP and bought my cracker jacks. Now shittecan those digital cammies and bring back Sea Farers dungaree bell bottomed pants and chambray shirts. Always had a set that was pressed clean and neat. Good uniform to work in on ships. Now they also have digital cammies, some new BS all blue working uniform that looks like the Coast Guard and the ships type of blue baggie.

I hated the blueberries. Type III greens were okay for an expeditionary environment but inappropriate anywhere else. Like so many other facets, USN has lost its way.

1982 -1994. Wore the winter black button down shirt, tie, pants with white cover. Summer white button down shirt, white pants, with white cover, while in garrison. dress blues or dress whites for ceremonies. dungarees uniform with chuka boots and white cover for working details. Then after A/C school in Pensacola I went FMF and wore woodland cammies or flight suit with MC 8 pt woodland cover. Very rarely wore anything else.

Today, I've seen so many changes to the uniform that I'm glad I served when I did. We looked much better than what they wear now.

Yes and No. The women now wear the male version of the uniform, but the uniform for men has not changed.
