I won’t ever retire and I do not want to. I may retire from one profession to something else, but I’ll continue to work until I can no longer. Man is meant to work, but work wasn’t meant to be drudgery. Work now sucks because of the fall of man. We will be working in heaven, but it won’t be menial, dull, or burdensome.

You think we will be floating on a cloud playing a harp for all eternity? No thanks. That sounds like hell. We will create, we will build, we will discover, we will learn, we will be on adventures, and on and on and on for all eternity in heaven. The work we do will no longer be drudgery.

I guy I went to the police academy in 1987 is still on The job - Yes, he's a boss but looks every bit of the 36 plus years on. My goal is to get at least as many years retired as I worked.

My goal is work 20, retired 40 (at least!). The ultimate goal is to live long enough to say my pension is next to worthless……..and still have my other incomes!

Working on it, retired 30 so far because I got a late start, probably still worth about half of its original value. Like it has been said, it's not meant to be your sole income until SS kicks in, and even both combined are far from what is needed to live comfortably today.

And for what it’s worth, I see that writing on the wall and figure while I’m still young, get into another career in policing.

I often think of that poor cop from Brooklyn who was working his vacation at 1PP with 40+ years on the job - 61 years old and dropped dead in the lobby there!

That’s what is always in the back of my mind. I have 33 years on and plan to finish up this year. I will be 53 and want to enjoy my retirement and not fall off the perch for the sake of hitting a certain number of years service mile stone.
