Greetings Retirees & Retirees In Training!

Today the MLC chose to move forward with the Nuclear Option - killing ALL health plan options and only allow you to use their new Medicare Advantage Plan AETNA (if the vote passes on March 9th) or HIP VIP (if you are in the NY Metro area).

Their plot is to force us into Medicare Advantage to save the City money... and if you elect to opt out of their plot and Medicare Advantage, you waive your City health benefits and lose your Medicare B Reimbursement and IRMAA(if you qualify).

This is pure greed, vindictive and petty behavior. The Retirees will not stand to be stripped of our benefits. We have come up with a campaign to help get our word out there.

Tell them to be real labor leaders and not sell out their members and retirees! Medicare Advantage is NOT Medicare. And they should do whatever it is they have to, to protect traditional Medicare with a Medigap as a premium free option. Your doctor should dictate your care not your insurance company. Stand up for what is right! Medicare Advantage cannot be compared to traditional Medicare in access and service and ease of use! Remind them you EARNED AND PAID FOR YOUR BENEFITS!

Dear Mayor Adams:
My name is ________________________and I am a former employee of ___________________(name of where you worked). I served my time in government for over __________years as a ________________________(name of position). I am a retiree that cannot afford to spend extra money. I am on a fixed income that is based on a monthly pension. Please do not force me into a plan that is not going to help me stay alive. Not all doctors accept Medicare Advantage Medicare Advantage Plans regardless of it being a PPO. And we do not have prior authorizations now and should not have to deal with that process when we are older and ill. Traditional Medicare does not and we don't need more stress! Please do not place me or my fellow retirees into a plan that will strip us of our dignity and life.

Do not let the Unions convince you that this is the best option, they do not represent us. You call yourself the Mayor for the people, please consider yourself as a Mayor for the great seniors, who gave their time to serve this great city and sit with us. Our Drs will NOT all accept this plan, YOU have been lied to again. This came out in Court! This plan is YOUR future plan and they will add more and more obstacles into it so AETNA can increase profits. Sit with us, hear what we have to tell you. You will see OLR and OMB are lying to you.

If you have to move forward with a Medicare Advantage Plan against our wishes, then all we can ask is that you grandfather all of the current retirees in our current plan. No change or added cost unto us. Most of us cannot afford to pay up for choice, and were were told we would always have premium free choices. Forcing us to pay for something we cannot afford is not a choice. And only offering ONE plan is NOT choice either.

I had joined NYCOPSR a while back and donated. I’m in for 200 bucks, so far. They have fought hard for us and convincingly won each of the suits. These mother feckers will not stop until they ram this BS down our throats, one way or another. They’ve failed on each front, so far. But sooner or later, the administration will just say that it’s done. and that will be it. I can’t see us prevailing

The only logic I can put in this vote is that most civilians retire a lot later in life, closer to 65, then the average cop or fireman. But I hear there is some under the table pay off to these leaders which would not surprise me a bit. This site of union leaders voting against the interests of their members is one that working people should never forget.

Our health benefits should be controlled by our respective unions, with retirees being active in the union decisions that effect benefits.

The city pays into the union package, and the retirees pay close to full union dues in order to secure its health coverage.

We shouldnt rely on the city council or Mayor anymore. Retirees are in need of better health care later in life than while they are on the payroll.

There are just as many retirees as there are municipal workers. We should be able to have a voice.

So if I want good medical coverage I'm going to have to buy a private medigap plan, A plan G runs about $300 pp per month & I loose the $165 part B reimbursement. Add in the wife and its gonna run me $11,160 per year! Why do I feel like the City is giving to me without any lubricant?
